Founder of Rise Up Counseling, PLLC
Areas of Speciality
As far back as I can remember, I have been intrigued by questions of what makes people who they are and what might be holding them back from being truly great. This curiosity led me to a career in helping others to discover themselves and to rise up through life's struggles.
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice from the University of North Texas. I then received my Master’s degree in Counseling from Southern Methodist University with dual licensure of Licensed Professional Counseling and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapy. I am also a board-approved Supervisor for LPC Associates. My areas of focus and expertise consist of treatment for adolescents, adults, and couples in trauma, depression, anxiety, behavioral modification, relationships, attachment issues, and life transitions. I am also very passionate about the criminal justice system and social justice.
My experience in the field of Mental Health has provided the foundation for my therapeutic approach. I gained experience working across various age ranges from children to adolescents, adults, couples and families, engaging with these populations within schools, alternative campuses, clinics, and a psychiatric hospital. I worked in a juvenile correctional facility for 12 years providing services to at-risk youth and their families as the Clinical Director. I currently work at a University, providing individual therapy to students of all ages. I am also the Training Coordinator for the internship program and supervise the master level interns through their final coursework requirements.
I founded Rise Up Counseling, PLLC in 2016 to help more people outside of my agency work and to supervise LPC Associates on their journey to becoming fully licensed. During the pandemic, I was able to expand the therapy and services provided at Rise Up Counseling, PLLC with the accessibility of telehealth.
My focus with my clients is to work through their various traumas and negative behaviors that have led them down a dark path. It is my belief that if someone is given the opportunity to explore their traumas in a safe space, they are more likely to be resilient in finding a way to Rise Up and be a survivor.
My passion is to help people and encourage them to find their inner strength and to be the best version of themselves. I use many different modalities to serve my clients but mostly use a foundation of Existential Therapy, Reality Therapy and Trauma Focused- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
I also enjoy supervising LPC Associates on their quest to completing 3000 hours and strengthening their skills as counselors.
In my spare time, I enjoy using self-care and taking the time to be the best version of myself. Outside of Counseling, I enjoy spending time with my husband and 2 step-daughters, and friends and family, getting outside, hiking, reading, any activities on the water and traveling. I also enjoy spending time with my best companion, Birdie, my ever-energetic German Short-hair Pointer.
